TACLOBAN - CGR volunteers continue rebuilding local homes in the Tacloban area, arriving three days ago to help families receive adequate shelter that was damaged or destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013.

Work has progressed, with house #1 well underway for a young family with three boys. The roof was put up today, with plans to finish both the floor and walls tomorrow.

Rains stopped the rebuild for a couple of hours, yet the CGR team hopes to continue work in spite of a large storm expected to pass over the area tomorrow.

CGR’s Administrative Assistant Sara Ruiz had the opportunity to speak to the owner of the first house: “She feels really blessed that we are here and that we are helping to provide secure shelter for her and her family, as right now they live in a small shack made out of tin with her father. She said she’s happy to finally have a roof over their heads so that when it rains her things don’t get wet.”

The team has begun rebuilding house #2, with the posts already being put up. Another Albertan CGR team will be arriving in the area, assisting in the rebuilds with donations received by caring Canadians.

Thank you for your willingness to help respond to Typhoon Hagupit and the need for adequate shelter. These efforts would not be possible without your support.

Further information about the humanitarian relief efforts in the Philippines will be made available as soon as possible.
